Alfia
help cut explosion in vandalism in East Sussex
April
2008
East Sussex County Council had a ongoing problem with
vandalism to
their machines in the area. The installed base of Pay and
Display
machines were being regularly damaged by the action of some local
vandals. The machines coin and ticket slots were being packed
with powerful explosives and when set off the machines were severely
damaged or destroyed. The total damage cost to the Council
for
the last three years was in excess of £350,000 excluding lost
revenue, a situation which could not be tolerated.
Alfia
were confident that their robust Vision SI machine would withstand such
attacks and were selected to supply and install around 200 of their
machines in East Sussex. Whilst the machines suffered the
same
abuse as its predecessors the damage caused was minimal, under
£2,000.00 from April 2007 – December 2007, with
lost
revenue hardly affected.
Further
development work
has taken place with Crimestoppers, the Police, the Fire and Rescue
Services and the Enforcement Contractor NCP which will virtually
eliminate damage with such attacks.
Roger
Woodward, Head of Parking at East Sussex County Council comments
“Alfia’s
confidence and commitment in helping resolve our difficult situation
has been of huge benefit to the Council. The Vision SI is a
tremendous product, very reliable, easy to maintain as well as being so
robust.”
